Got lots of craft and no cash? Got a farm to save for? Well, you're in good company! Scrapple and I have decided to make all of our gifts this season and over the next few days I'll be sharing a few of the goodies we'll be packing up for family and friends. First up - Mulled Wine Sachets. Scrapple's mulled wine has become the stuff of legends after being our holiday party go-to for the past 2 years. When it's cold outside, nothing beats a steaming cup of the good stuff - bring on the holiday cheer!
These sachets are ready to pop into a pot with a bottle of wine and ready to drink after 30 minutes.
In a 6"x6" square of butter muslin (or a double layer of cheesecloth) pile:
- 4 black peppercorns
- 1 star anise
- 1 tsp whole cloves
- 1 tsp whole allspice berries
- 1/2" piece of cinnamon stick
- 2 tbs turbinado sugar
- 1 tsp dried orange rind (peel an orange, scrape out the pith, cut into thin strips, dry in oven at 170f for 40 min, stirring every 10 minutes)
Tie up the sachet with kitchen twine and - voila! Ready to go! Pour a bottle of red wine into a medium sized pot, add a sachet and heat for 30 minutes over medium low heat. I'll be packaging 3 in a little box with instructions (best to avoid someone opening the sachet and ending up chomping on a whole clove).
More to come soon!
